Anyone know if the post-Freudian Sexual Revolution worked?

Just wondering. I've been watching with some amusement the anti-Christine O'Donnell coverage in the MSM. Not being from Delaware, I have no horse in that race, and don't really care one way or another. But I chuckle every time they mention that she 'is against masturbation!' My question, does embracing the glories of masturbation solve the social ills it was supposed to? Remember, we only embraced the sexually permissive attitudes because we had to, science and psychiatry all insisted that if we got rid of sexual repression, and embraced all manner of sexual expression, why everything from aligning the planets to effective chocolate diets would be the result. It would be a perfect world, with all those old problems associated with sexual repression eliminated. So, did it work? Are we getting rid of those old sexually related problems? Less men raping women? Fewer psychological problems? It's just that the rising concern of pedophilia, child abuse, sexual assaults, STD and AIDS pandemics still has me wondering. Just wanting to know.

  1. Well I think it is pretty obvious that the sexual revolution has done nothing but harm this world. Sexuality and politics- two very nasty subjects to put together.

  2. You sure picked the right name for your blog. Do you even have a clue about the subject? Or do you just envy people who are happy with their sex lives

  3. If he was writing a doctoral thesis, you might have a point. But it's a blog. Deal with it. And it's a fair question. Liberalism wants to change morality, promising a brighter future. At least once in a while it would be nice to ask if that brighter future has happened. After all, we've been pushing the liberal approach to sex for about fifty years. I would like to see the stats. Are things better than they were?

  4. And if I said it needed to be a doctoral thesis, you would have a point. My point is, he writes things like this that are ridiculous. No one ever said we had to embrace sexual liberation to save the world. People finally rejected the old puritan obsession with denying our sexual natures. And about time.

  5. true people rejected the old puritan obsessions but what has that lead to - hmm let me see- STDs, suicide rates rising (especially among gays), AIDS, abortion, and the list goes on.

  6. maybe if the religious right didn't promote hatred of gays by telling them they are second rate citizens, they wouldn't feel like they don't deserve to live. And maybe if you are such a concerned mom, you might consider the fact that your kids will have sex. If you don't care about making them safer, then don't blame it on people who are being honest and trying to solve the problem.

  7. Well since in my opinion there is no such thing as safe sex, I choose to follow Christian teachings and teach my children to follow this same ideal - abstain until marriage. If that makes me a bit Puritanical then that is ok by me. If that keeps my kids safe from diseases and from having kids with they are not ready for it - then I have achieved what these values have been set forth for. I do not hate gays and I have never been one who says anything that you have described above- I am simple a person who believes in following the teachings of Christ (the one whom I have chosen to live my life to try and please). It is a joyful life. I know that I have someone I can always turn to and who will always love me no matter what.

    Ephesians 4:15 (New International Version)
15Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.
