Because it's that time of year
The one that started it all:
Was it the first time anyone had ever synched a lights display and music? No, it's unlikely. But this was the one that started the fad that hasn't stopped. I remember seeing Carson Williams, the electrical engineer who put this together, interviewed by Matt Lauer on the Today show. And it was one of several interviews and news stories. It isn't just that he did something in a way that captured people's attention, and at a time when social media on the Internet was taking off. It's that the display is amazingly well choreographed, with various elements composed and lighting in order for a purpose. In most cases, even the biggest such displays just have lights go on and off while the music plays. But Mr. Williams took it to the limits in 2004, and made an impact that has entertained millions ever since.
