Orthodox Patriarchate in Turkey is recognized
Good to hear. It's funny, but we will accept table scraps when it comes to what other cultures are willing to give us. Don't get me wrong, the Orthodox Church has struggled under Turkish rule for some time. Just as the Orthodox faith struggled for the last 500 years under various manifestations of Islamic rule to varying degrees. This is a big win, and I wish the best to the Orthodox Patriarch as he forges ahead. But I just have to chuckle at how we all celebrate something that is nothing other than what we would take for granted in our own back yard, while continuing to imagine the worst about our own back yards compared to everywhere else in the world from which we are more than happy to receive the occasional scrap.
