Pray for the victims of the supermarket shooting

Most likely have heard now of the shooting at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York.  So far 10 have died, and many others are wounded.  Pray for them especially.  Pray for the poor victims.  Pray for their loved ones who will be left to deal with this unimaginable tragedy.  It's impossible to think what they are going through. May God cover their hearts and minds with the peace that only He can give.

Also pray for the retaliation.  We all know the drill.  It appears this was a white man with racially motivated reasoning for the shooting.  Therefore we're going to see more backlash against America and its past, the whole of the Western tradition, and all non-progressive whites.  Those who challenge liberal narratives will be lumped in with white racists and nationalists, who will be tied to this shooter no matter what.

Evil begets evil.  Again, we know the drill.  Normally I try to keep prayers for such tragedies on the victims.  Sadly, the victims will be used and exploited in weeks to come - for this will be dwelt upon for weeks to come, unless the initial narrative turns out to be wrong - and it will be done for reasons far removed from anything virtuous.

God bless the victims and their families, and God bless those who will be linked to this.

My thoughts exactly. All the screamy gun-grabbers will be out in full force, too.

    1. Yes, they will, and that's too bad. But that's very much like complaining about the 9/11 attacks interfering with that weekend's NFL games. It's a bad look to even bring it up now. Heaven knows, someone here is going to freak out and claim I am saying that we should let the government act like the 2nd Amendment does not exist, because that's the level of reading comprehension the Internet fosters. To be clear: that is not what I am saying. I am saying save that argument for another day, preferably after the funerals. Tonight all Americans should be mourning, and Catholics should be praying for the souls of those who died unexpectedly. That's it.

To grumble about how this is politically inconvenient is a low-class move, like grumbling about how your trip home from work is delayed by 10 minutes by a crash that killed a family. It is also something that will be seen as low-class by the public, meaning it is bad politics, for what that's worth.

Did I not think the Left was salivating for a moment like this, I'd have said nothing. 9/11 passed, the Towers are rebuilt and the perpetrators sent to God, but I'm still patted down and scanned like a criminal at the airport. Loss of rights will endure when the tragedy is forgotten, if we are not vigilant. We both know the present administration has people who would love to act as if the First Amendment did not exist, let alone the Second. I neither possess nor seek to possess any gun, but I want my Constitution left alone until and if properly amended. We can show respect to the dead and their families and keep a gimlet eye on the state simultaneously.

You were patted down and scanned from 1973 to 2001 as well. It's just that the security staff was employed by your local airport and they didn't tell you to take off your shoes.

    4. Anon, I typically have followed that approach. Until now. Because i was writing this post as I listened to an updated news report. And in that report there were already interviews linking it to white racism, right wing extremism, and I've seen one individual suggesting it's time to get the Feds involved to start ferreting out this movement that Biden has called the most extreme movement in American history. Again, normally I hold prayers for victims as the only focus after such a tragedy. But if the other side is going to go all Kristallnaucht on us, then I consider that prayer-worthy as well.

    5. This is indeed tragic and I have spent more time praying for victims of mass shootings and their families in this day and age than ever before. What is also tragic and you will never ever hear about it from this administration or the left is that so far in 2022 there have been over 200 homicides in Chicago and 125 in Baltimore alone. Where is the outrage? Where are the gun grabbers? Where is the outrage from the USBCC? Why wait for a mass killing? Where is the media on this? Are these homicides less important because they trickle in and are not all done in one fell swoop like Buffalo? I refuse to listen to these leftist do gooders and their virtuous calls to stop violence when there are mass shootings and remain silent on Chicago and Baltimore. Their silence tells me one thing: It's not about victims of shootings but about controlling people by disarming them.

    6. Bob, I think it's because it makes for better headlines and can more easily be used to build various agendas around them. A single killing repeated a hundred times a day around the country may or may not be able to be used that way. Sometimes it can. See George Floyd or Trayvon Martin. But a mass killing is easier to justify keeping it in the headlines when that is convenient to do.

It's about controlling ordinary people by disarming them. The criminal element are their voters and they are not interested in disarming them.

I doubt very much that the average criminal or gangbanger on the street is actually interested doing his civic duty by voting.

    9. It seems like right now the emphasis is on racism and extremist motivations. I haven't heard guns mentioned much. Those are usually the focus when it's something that doesn't fit the racist template..

    10. I suppose it would be easier today to take someones liberty away for racism and hate speech than for legally carrying a firearm.

He may not be, but Democratic pols are bound and determined to get felons back on the rolls. Terry McAuliffe in Virginia attempted a mass amnesty which was blocked by the courts.

    12. Adventures in blue city crime control initiatives. During Catherine Pugh's tenure in Baltimore, her plan was mo' money for community colleges. The new plan in Atlanta is midnight basketball. Deterrence, punishment, and incapacitation of violent criminals is not something they favor.

Not sure what country you were in during that time but I was never patted down or anyone else around me until after 9/11 at any airport including Logan, Baltimore, Nashville, Atlanta, O'Hare, Seattle Tacoma airports.

    1. I was living in Rochester, NY. and Baltimore. I often set off the metal detector because of surgical rods and orthopaedic braces.

    2. But not patted down as a normal course of action if not setting off the metal detectors as your comment seemed to suggest

I travelled many times from 1980 to 2000, and my only pat-down was once in London Heathrow. And the guy apologized! Those 9/11 rules are long past due for repeal.

    4. I don't recall being patted down the last time I got on a plane or the time previous. (I just recall bloody long lines). I set off metal detectors as a matter of course after which they go over me with the wand.

  3. You apparently posted too soon, Dave. There's now been something like 4 mass shootings this weekend. They're dividing up which political cause gets which right now.

    2. Sadly, you're right. I've realized for years that when something like this happens, the first question is how it can be exploited to advance what particular agenda. If it can't, or if it brings up questions about the press's agendas, it's dropped like hot potato, if we hear about it at all.

  5. So, the guy embraced both white supremacist and communist views. Is it fair to call him a violent centrist?

    1. They reserve the right to only focus on what they want to focus on. Like the old saying goes, the press can't tell us what to think, but it can tell us what to think about.
