Happy Easter!

A blessed and joyful Easter to all!

And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week they went to the tomb when the sun had risen. And they were saying to one another, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the door of the tomb?” And looking up, they saw that the stone was rolled back; for it was very large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe; and they were amazed. And he said to them, “Do not be amazed; you seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen, he is not here; see the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him, as he told you.” And they went out and fled from the tomb; for trembling and astonishment had come upon them; and they said nothing to any one, for they were afraid.  Mark 16.1-8

I sometimes wonder if we aren't properly afraid, given the immensity of what our Faith claims.  Just a thought.

You are absolutely right Dave. We've have a terrible habit of glossing over the "hard" parts of the Gospel. One example is when a person has died we tend to say 'well they're in a better place. 'Really? How do we know? Do we just deny our sinfulness and tell ourselves God would not allow us to go to hell? Everyone is saved? My mother recently died a few weeks ago. My sister, who should know better and hasn't been to a Mass in decades said to me, "Bob, she's in a better place now." Instead of agreeing with her I told her, "I have hope in Christ that he is merciful to her soul. Why don't make sure she is in a better place by praying for her and having Masses said for her?" My mother was devout all her life, but that is not a guarantee of salvation. God's mercy is all important as well as are our prayers for the dead.

    Happy Easter to everyone here!

  2. He is risen!

I think it was Tom Holland who said that something must have happened because we see a group of followers of this guy go from running in fear from the Roman authorities to facing them boldly in death. That kind of change is not easily explained.

Unless you have seen your rabbi and king conquer death and know that He will be waiting to share this victory with you. Praise God He has not abandoned us to despair, but has given His own Son to bring us hope.
