The Funeral of Winston Churchill

Over at The American Catholic, a clip of Churchill's funeral.  Back when Churchill was thought of as a great figure of the 20th century.  I always get a lump in my throat when it shows the great cranes in the navy yards lower as his funeral barge passes.

  1. The cranes were controlled by members of Labor Unions that had often been at odds with Churchill when he was in power and who supported the Labour Party. Their dipping of the cranes in salute was a gracious act and a reminder to us today of a better time in the West.

  2. I didn't know that. How awesome. It would be nice to remember. As I said, I came from a family of Democrats who would never vote for Reagan. But when they agreed, they agreed. And they personally liked him. But at the time I remember younger Democrats in college - including professors - who were not that way. I sometimes think it's a generational thing as well.
