It pains me

 Heh.  Still busy, but this made me laugh.  Ain't it the truth.  I've often wondered that myself!

Speaking of, from a local publication musing on a few headlines that we've had in the Buckeye State over the last few weeks:

Sometimes a good reminder is a nice thing

 So today, it's worth going back and remembering something like this:

If you have the time, you'll be glad you did

That is the television series finale for the 1960s British spy thriller The Prisoner.  Created by Patrick McGoohan, my second oldest said it's what you would get if Lewis Carroll wrote 1984.  The finale is one of those things that you have to see to believe.  We've watched some crazy things in our lives, but this has to rank near the top.  

Which is a nice thing to remember, since we all know what day this is:

Yep.  I mused on that here.  It still sticks in my mind as perhaps the single worst television broadcast of my life.  Compared to that, even the finale for The Prisoner comes off as tame and ordinary.  

For no particular reason

A little humor goes a long way

The Catholic Bard can sometimes be a fun read.   Here is a list of important lessons that Halloween brings.  This one made me laugh (in the section about how Peanuts makes every holiday better):

There comes a time in a man's life

When you're out walking around your neighborhood, and you see a bunch of signs in a yard celebrating someone's 40th birthday.  

At first you smile, then it dawns on you when you see the 1985 sign that 1985 was when you graduated high school.  That is, the person who is now 40 was born the same year you graduated.  Then you continue walking, but more keenly aware of the aches and pains with each subsequent step.  

I can't really speak to this

 

I don't know why people like picking on those things. When I lived in Louisville back in the 90s, I recall a news story from my old stomping grounds in Columbus.   Apparently some vandals tore down one of the Big Boy statues, dismembered it, and then drove around the city putting its parts in different locations. 

Now, I'm not one to make light of breaking the law or people engaging in property damage.  But I admit, that one made me giggle.  Still, I've never understood the glee people have in dissing on the Big Boy mascot, apart from the obvious.

By the way, that's Oh - HI - oh! There's a joke that Michigan fans like to tell that suggests only in Ohio do we consider it an accomplishment to spell out our own state.  We like to say we do it for the sake of Michigan fans who might struggle with big words like Ohio.

I think the point was moving 'Board Games' up a few notches.  But I had to chuckle at the other categories.  I especially liked 'Shoving a stick in a crocodile's mouth to wedge it open.'  That made me laugh. 

The Babylon Bee looks deep into the hearts of men

 And learns the truth:

Heh.  I'm not a big BB fan. It sets out to mock and lampoon the modern Left, and that's a pretty tall order.  Most often the absurdity of our World today far exceeds what comedic writers could concoct.  Nonetheless, it tries.  And once in a while, it does kick one through the uprights.  In this case I confess guilty as charged. 

Kudos for it being the old Fortress America game I mentioned here.  When a satirical piece can bring a smile and some memories, I'd call that a win.

My son and I were traveling through a city in northcentral Ohio when we noticed this while stopped at a traffic light.  It took a second to sink in, then we both laughed out loud.  My son said whoever came up with that needs a raise.  The more you think on it, it does a great job making its point.

I didn't get to see all of the morning news outlets cover this, but the ones I did see mentioned only that Trump did this in response to some vague, unnamed statement by Biden.  No mention of what exactly Biden said.  Unlike the constant repeating of the comedian's statement about Puerto Rico, which was repeated endlessly for days.  One local network had on the ticker what Biden said, but the story itself wasn't covered. 

One of the great evils of our age is that we can't know what is going on in the world because the agencies with the ability to convey the information have long ago thrown integrity and truth out the window for the sake of their interests, no matter who or what is hurt as a result.

Still a fun watch on Thanksgiving

 From saner times:

Hard to believe the show's messages included the obvious fact that fundamentalists are not the same as terrorists, that just because Republicans are wrong doesn't mean we hate them, and with the role of Sam Seaborn, played by Rob Lowe, not all Democrats are always right.   My how things have changed. 

At least this is fun, albeit from a world long ago.  

I have officially seen my favorite Halloween costume ever

It replaces the old picture I saw ages ago of a mom with triplets who dressed them as Thing 1, Thing 2, and Thing 3 from The Cat in the Hat.
