As we enter a welcomed thaw

After quite a stretch of near zero temperatures, I must admit a deep nighttime sky over a snow-covered landscape still strikes the right aesthetic for me.

The view on my way home a few nights ago.

  1. That's lovely! I have to admit frost covered branches sparkling in the morning is one of the perks of living in near subzero weather. There is beauty in every landscape in every season!

    1. It's true, each season has it's own special posterchild for breathtaking images. Though Fall is my favorite, I have a soft spot for winter because 1) Christmas, and 2) my Dad was one of those 'give me icicles over May flowers' types.

    2. You're right David. Fall holds a special place in my heart. Like God took the extra effort to paint us a masterpiece, yet as much as I don't like the cold and snow of winter, I find winter a time to unwind from the work that was done in the warmth of summer and part of fall. It's a time to yes, ready ourselves for Christmas, but also lay back, relax a bit, read some, cook something new, or an old rib sticking favorite to keep us filled, and while we feel the heat from the wood stove as it snows and sleets outside a book is open on our lap. Lent comes quickly then and being stuck in the house, prayers and devotions find more time in our lives as we prepare for Easter. Yeah, winter can be burden some but in other ways, a respite from business.

    3. Bob, I like that. I think it was like that when I was a kid I just didn't realize it. After all, we might have played in the snow some, but it wasn't a day long proposition. Much time was spent in, doing those things that bright sunny summer days seemed to make difficult to justify. Now even if I love fall and have grown to like spring, there is something about being indoors with the snow outside and a chance to take a breath.
