Seeing The Hobbit on Tolkien's birthday

Through mere coincidence, we planned on seeing Peter Jackson's take on The Hobbit tonight on what would have been Tolkien's 121st Birthday.  A respectable age for any Hobbit.  I'm not expecting much from the movie.  Most of what I've heard is 45 minutes too long, with the typical Peter Jacksonian knack for missing the finer points while focusing on 30 minute fight scenes.  There will be a few wonderful moments, where we'll get a glimpse of the genius that could have been, then it will deteriorate into a series of adolescent scenes aimed largely at an audience the majority of which believes The Empire Strikes Back was the worst Star Wars movie, and  The Phantom Menace rocks.  Eh.  Anyway, happy birthday Professor Tolkien, and thanks for all the enjoyment and profound literary experiences your works have given the world.
