Keep A Child Alive AIDS charity stunt didn't work

A much publicised charity drive, brainchild of Alicia Keys, has failed to garner the support they had hoped for.  Calling for 1,000,000.00 in donations or else a list of celebrities would be gone from the digital world, as of now they have only raised around 180,000.00.  That's a shame.  It seemed like a good cause.  Why did it not work?  Hard to say.  The article has a couple guesses.  Or it could be that an audience base that is usually encouraged to tune into a technologically closed world of self focus and self focus which more or less focuses on self, only wants those celebrities around when they are pandering to the self.  I would like to think not, but I can't help but get the feeling a country that venerates self absorbed selfish motivations based on the self above all things isn't going to keep up the traditional 'charity and goodwill' for which Americans have been traditionally known.  Maybe I'm wrong.  But at least among younger people, the willingness to take to the streets because our celebrities said so, for this rather well publicized cause at least, appears to be waning.
