A thanks to all the poll workers from this election season

Sherry Weddell, a writer whose reflections I enjoy, wrote a nice piece about an often overlooked side of our election process: the army of volunteers who make it happen. On a side note, I was heartened to see a young woman as one of the volunteers this year. I think that's the first time in my decades of voting that I saw someone that young helping out. Just a note, in a few more years, we'll need more folks to step up to the plate.

"I just had to say “thank-you for your service" to the woman who took my ballot. If it wouldn’t have disturbed the hush of the moment, I would have tried to thank all the volunteers present. We owe them. We owe all who ensure that year after year, our experience of voting is dim and threadbare and ordinary instead of violent or marred by corruption.

In the context of human history, that qualifies as a major achievement. God bless all who make it possible."

  1. Here here. I had a nice polling place - busy as it was, but very helpful and curtious workers. A huge thanks from me too!

  2. Nice article. I've thought the same thing over the years.
