A little Gregorian Chant

Yes, the saint of the day is Gregory the Great, pope and doctor of the Church and beloved pioneer of Church chants that bear his name.  He is one of the four great doctors of the Church.  According to accounts, he emptied the papal treasury to ransom prisoners of the Lombards.  He is said to have removed unworthy priests from office, and forbade taking money for many services.  He also is believed to have cared for persecuted Jews.  Leaders like Gregory the Great are hard to come by.  More of his kind could only help today, though I wonder how popular he would be.  Still, on this day, it's worth a listen if you have some chant.  Especially since there are some who, like all ages, feel the best thing to do for the Church is to abandon that pesky 2000 year old ancient stuff and embrace the latest, hippest that our wonderfully enlightened culture has to offer.
